"This is one of the most accomplished and experienced teams I've ever had."
Kristy said heading into the start of Iditarod 2022.
Those are pretty strong words for someone starting out on her 13th Iditarod. But when you check out Kristy's roster of dogs, you'll get a sense for why that is the case. They are experienced - only two dogs are Iditarod rookies while twelve have seen this trail before. They're also a fairly mature bunch, averaging out at 4.5 years of age. Kristy has four females and ten males on her team, and every single one loves to run.
The other thing that really stands out about Kristy's team are the strong family ties... 11 of her 14 dogs are part of the Seeing Double family. Of those? Four are from the B-Squad litter (Bootleg, Berzerker, Bogus, and Bulliet) and four are from the Trouble litter (Havoc, Ruckus, Mayhem, and Rampage). It's pretty cool to think the twins have raised them all from wet-behind-the-ear pups to dogs that happily make this journey year after year on one of the twin's team or the other.
Here is Kristy's team for Iditarod 2022:
Moocha: 4 year old male on loan from Nic Petit. He's an Iditarod veteran and does very well in lead. He also wants everyone to know he's a great kisser! He'd rather I not share that his nickname is Mooney Pookey...!
Bootleg: 6 year old female and Seeing Double Dog. This lady knows her business as an Iditarod veteran and part of the B-Squad litter. Much like her brother Bogus, she's solid anywhere on the team... anywhere, that is, except lead!
Crocket: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He joined the Seeing Double family officially after running on Kristy's team last year on loan from Nic Petit. Thus he's an Iditarod veteran. He will run anywhere but has become one of Kristy's key lead dog skills. He's one of the biggest dogs on the team, weighing in around 73 pounds!
Wallace: 5 year old Seeing Double Dog. He's an Iditarod veteran and has run with Kristy before. He just missed being on last year's team after getting a minor shoulder injury, but he's all healed up, trained up, and ready for redemption!
Berzerker: 6 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He's part of the B-Squad litter and usually runs in swing or near the back of the team.
Shadow: 5 year old female on loan from Ryan Redington. She is an Iditarod veteran and while she will run in lead, she prefers spending most of her time in team or wheel dog rolls. She is the smallest dog on the team coming in just a little under 50 pounds.
Bogus: 6 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He's an Iditarod vet and part of the B-Squad litter. Returning fans undoubtedly recognize his name. He's a champ and will run anywhere on the team... except lead. No lead, no thanks.
Havoc: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. As his name suggests, he is from the "Trouble Litter," and is one of four littermates on Kristy's team. (The fifth littermate, Chaos, is on Anna's team!) Havoc is one of Kristy's main leaders and is often running the line with Crocket.
Ruckus: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He's an Iditarod vet and the a sibling from the Trouble Litter. He's spent a little time in lead and can run anywhere on the team.
Bulliet: 6 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He's the 4th member of the B-Squad litter and another Iditarod veteran. He'll run anywhere on the team, including lead, albeit grudgingly.
Mayhem: 4 year old female and Seeing Double Dog. And yep, you guessed it - another member of the Trouble Litter. She's an Iditarod veteran and is one of Kristy's main leaders down the trail.
Rampage: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He's the fourth member of the Trouble Litter on Kristy's team this year. He's an Iditarod veteran and will run in any position, but is frequently spotted in lead.
Sherman: 3 year old on loan from Ryan Redington. This is his rookie Iditarod and he's the youngest dog on Kristy's team. He will run in lead, but he's a better known for being a swing-dog specialist.
Saison: 3 year old female and Seeing Double Dog. She's part of the Oktoberfest litter and representing her siblings on this year's trail.
