When I posted Race Update 3.2, I should have saved myself some face and alluded to the fact that there was a decent chance the twins elected to take their 24-hour rest in Galena. Given how long they have been in the Galena checkpoint as of this writing, I am now nearly certain that is the case.
We'll get our confirmation later tonight. If I've done the math right, look for Anna to pull out at 6:30pm Alaska time Friday night and Kristy at 7:30pm. At least, those are the earliest times they would be cleared to go and still successfully mark their 24 completed. There is always a chance they get a little delayed or Anna waits to start at the same time as Kristy.
As to the rest of the teams on the trail...
The first 6 are confirmed into Huslia
6 are en route from Galena to Huslia
A whole slew of mushers are hunkered down in Galena, ostensibly taking their 24s.
A handful are making their way from Ruby to Galena and another handful are resting in Ruby.
And the final two mushers are making their way into Ruby. The current red lantern is around race mile 300, taking our spread between leaders and laggards to about 200 miles.
There have been no additional scratches, leaving 75 teams still on the trail
I'll have more updates later today and over the weekend, so stay tuned! The mushers and their dogs aren't taking the weekend off... Neither am I.
