Anna is excited to be headed out on this year's Iditarod trail with 14 exceptional canine athletes. In fact, 9 of the 14 have run on her Iditarod team before. Anna says this year's team is steady, patient, and strong. Most of her team brings a wealth of experience, as she only has 2 Iditarod rookies on her team. And even then, all of these dogs have trained with Anna throughout the season. Her two oldest dogs are 7 years, but her team averages out to 4 years of age. She has 3 females and 11 males, and half are Seeing Double dogs and half are on loan for the season. She is keen to care for them all and run them to Nome in a way that best lets them do what they can do.
In no particular order, here is Anna's team:
Astro: 3 year old male on loan from Nic Petit. He's an Iditarod veteran, having run on Anna's team last year. And he's happy to do his part by running anywhere on the team.
Bolt: 4 year old male on loan from Ryan Redington. He also ran on Anna's team in 2019 and made it all the way to the finish. He will run in lead and excels anywhere in the team.
Chaos: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. As his name suggests, he's a member of the Trouble Litter, and his four siblings are out on the trail with Kristy this year. Chaos is an Iditarod vet that will run anywhere on the team.
Drax: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. Drax is an Iditarod veteran and one of the star leaders on Anna's team. He's part of the Guardians of the Galaxy litter, running with sibling Yondu.
Yondu: 4year old male and Seeing Double Dog. As just mentioned, Yondu is part of the Guardians of the Galaxy litter and running with his brother Drax. He's an Iditarod veteran and another of Anna's best leaders.
Forrest: 7 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. He's an Iditarod veteran that will be applying his strength and skills in the middle-to-back of the team.
Diego: 4 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. This is his second Iditarod appearance after running with Anna last year. He's a team dog who needs to run surrounded by his pack to keep him focused. Also, unlike most dogs on the planet, he's not keen on salmon. He's known to turn his nose up at it, actually! Thus there's a special Diego-approved snack in every bag that the twins put together. That way, no matter what bag they grab, there's always something tasty for Diego inside.
White Sauce: 2 year old male on loan from Nic Petit. He's an Iditarod veteran, but you wouldn't necessarily guess that... he's a bit of a diva and needs to be babied when it's extra cold. But he sure loves to run!
Randy: 3 year old male and Seeing Double Dog. This is his second Iditarod, returning to the trail after running with Anna last year. He's a versatile member of the team, not to mention very strong and very sweet!
Kevin: 4 year old male on loan from Ryan Redington. This is his rookie Iditarod. He's polishing his lead dog skills but is happy running anywhere on the team.
Barb: 2 (going on 3) year old female on loan from Nic Petit. She's an Iditarod veteran having run last year. She's also a bit of a flirt!
Rizo: 7 year old female and Seeing Double Dog. She's part of the Muppet litter and has been in the Iditarod with one of the twins several times. She can be very shy around strangers, but out on the trail she is a star and one of Anna's best leaders, particularly by way of her experience.
Dane: 5 year old male on loan from Ryan Redington. He's an Iditarod veteran and will be primarily running in a team dog role.
Platinum: 3 year old female on loan from Nic Petit. This is her rookie Iditarod run and is working on her lead dog skills. She did all 4 mid-distances races with Anna this year and is quickly proving she's worth her weight in... well, platinum! She's got some legs, too, being one of the tallest dogs on Anna's team. Anna thinks if she herself was a dog, she'd be like Platinum.
