Low temperatures Thursday night will be around -10F. Highs on Friday will be in the mid to upper single digits. There is less of a diurnal temperature variation due to the trails proximity to the coast.
Winds:
Winds will be out of the north at 10-15 mph. Slightly stronger winds of 15-20 mph in the Seward Peninsula Mountains.
Precipitation:
It appears that any snowfall that will occur on Friday will happen further south in Alaska. No snowfall is expected in the final stretch to Nome.
Temperature:
Temperatures tonight will reach slightly above -10F. Highs on Thursday will be in the mid to upper single digits.
Winds:
Tonight, winds will remain out of the north to northeast at 10-25 mph. On Thursday winds will continue to be out of the north to northeast at 10-20 mph. These high winds will put wind chills into the -30's tonight and in the -10's on Thursday. The high winds are in association with a low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska.
Precipitation:
No snowfall is expected; however, the possibility of a pop-up snow shower is possible tonight into Thursday.
Temperature:
Low tonight will be around -10F. High temperatures on Wednesday will approach the mid 0's.
Winds:
High winds around 15-25 mph from the Unalakleet to Koyuk checkpoints tonight. These stronger winds will move further westward during the day on Wednesday to the southern portion of the Seward Peninsula. Winds will be out of the north to northeast in association with a surface low pressure as it moves across the Aleutian Islands. Wind chills will be cold in the -30's to -40's tonight.
Precipitation:
No snowfall expected tonight or Wednesday. Possible fog formation tonight could reduce visibility along the trail.
Temperature:
Near Kaltag, overnight temperatures will approach the mid -20's while locations closer to the coast and the Unalakleet checkpoint will only reach around -10F. High temperatures on Tuesday will stay in the lower single digits.
Winds:
Winds tonight will be out of the northeast at 5-15 mph. During the day Tuesday, slightly stronger winds of 15-20 mph will be possible.
Precipitation:
No precipitation expected Monday night or Tuesday.
Temperature:
Conditions tonight and Monday will resemble the same pattern as the previous day. Overnight lows will cool down to -20°F to -30°F. Highs tomorrow will reach the -0's.
Winds:
Slightly stronger winds may be possible tomorrow. Wind speeds will be around 5-15 mph from the north to northeast. Again, wind chills will be near -40°F overnight and near -10°F during the warmest part of the day on Monday.
Precipitation: No snowfall expected Sunday night or Monday.
Temperature:
Temperatures in this region of Alaska will continue to be below average. Saturday night the low ranged from -20F to -30F. The high on Sunday will not make it above 0F.
Winds:
The surface low-pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska has started to weaken. Winds Saturday night into Sunday will be light from the north to northwest around 5-10 mph. Wind chills Saturday night were a frigid -40F to -50F near the Galeena checkpoint.
Precipitation:
No snowfall expected for the remainder of the weekend.
Temperature:
Lows tonight will be in the -10's to -20's in the Lower Koyukuk and Middle Yukon Valleys. Highs tomorrow will reach about 5°F.
Winds:
Winds will be around 15 mph out of the north tonight. These winds will put the wind chill around -40°F. This pattern will stick around throughout the day Saturday as a low-pressure system remains fairly stationary in the Gulf of Alaska. Expect winds to be around 5 mph on Saturday from the N to NW.
Precipitation:
It will remain partly cloudy over Friday night into Saturday, however snowfall is not likely. Visibility should continue to be good. Perhaps Kristy and Anna will catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights through the clouds as forecasts call for high auroral activity over this part of Alaska.
Temperature:
Temperatures overnight will dip down into the -10's to -20's. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper single digits. The sun may peak through the clouds tomorrow for a change.
Winds:
A surface low-pressure system in the southern Gulf of Alaska will be trekking further northward into the Prince William Sound on Friday. This will keep winds out of the NE tonight, shifting to NW winds through the day tomorrow. Wind speeds will be around 10-15 mph. Wind chills will be below 0°F Thursday night and Friday.
Precipitation:
No precipitation is expected Thursday night or Friday for the part of the trail Anna and Kristy will be traveling. Visibility will be good.
Temperature:
Lows tonight will be around 0°F. Thursday afternoon highs will be in the upper teens. A low-pressure system in the Bering Sea will track across the Aleutian Islands Thursday afternoon and bring cooler temperatures to the area on Friday.
Winds:
Winds will remain out the southwest tonight at about 10mph. On Thursday, winds will be relatively calm and become more northerly with speeds 10-15mph late in the day.
Precipitation:
Some snow showers will still be possible in the Upper Kuskokwim Valley tonight; however, accumulations will likely be under 0.5". By Thursday, no snow should be occuring along the trail. Cloudy conditions will persist throughout the day Thursday.
Temperature:
Temperatures Tuesday night will dip down into the upper single digits. Wednesday high temperatures in McGrath and the surrounding area will be in the mid to upper 20's. After Wednesday, temperatures will likely cool down over the trail as the next system begins to move in.
Winds:
Winds will stay out of the SSW at around 10-20 mph tonight. Wind speeds will decrease throughout the day Wednesday as the current system moves out of the area. Expected winds tomorrow can be around 5-10 mph. Winds may become more westerly late in the day Wednesday. Wind chill values will be in the -10's tonight and in the 0's tomorrow.
Precipitation:
Snowfall will continue to be scattered throughout tonight and into tomorrow for the Upper Kuskokwim Valley associated with a surface low-pressure system in the Bering Sea. McGrath, AK saw about 2" of snow last night. Additional accumulations could reach 1" tonight and another 1-2" is possible tomorrow. Chances of snow diminish during the day Wednesday. Snowfall will likely be light where it occurs.
